Novel: ROMEO and Juliet

Novel Graphics:
When it came to designing the front cover all I knew was that I wanted there to be a lot of symbols and there is a reason for everything, from top to bottom. At the top you will see Juliet's balcony. This balcony is a simpler version of 1500’s Italian architecture at the time, then there are 5 columns for the five days the book takes place. Then you have the abundance of flowers on the whole cover, those are a simpler version of Juliet's wedding flower. The flowness of the vines are for the orchard wall Romeo climbed to get to Juliet's balcony. Then you have the leaves. There are 42 leaves on the whole cover, and the poison that Juliet drinks at the end is supposed to render her dead for 42 hours. Then there are 63 flowers and leaves on the cover and that is for the year Romeo and Juliet took place in. then the 7 vines are for the 7 themes in the book. Then the dagger is for not only the way they die but also for the multiple stabbings in the book. Then the two heads are for Romeo and Juliet and they are separated to show they were not allowed to be together. The amount of beiges is because beige was very prominent in Italian culture. Everything is symmetrical because symmetry was very important on the book covers at the time.

Inside graphic:
For the inside graphic I wanted there to be a dagger cause it plays a important role as there are 6 stabbings and the two big flowers are for Romeo and Juleit
Back Cover:
The back cover has 6 flowers for the 6 people who died and the two vines don’t touch to show the two households. Then another balcony and the lines I wanted to make very prominent because lines were very prominent on 1500 book covers.
