Tragedy of Edgeland /Site-driven Archive

Inspired by Edward Chell, I define Edgeland represents a metaphor for a liminal space between stagnation and regeneration rather than an absolute geographical space. It is related to the changes in social landscape and structure. However, urban development and spaces are set up with a sense of control and political power. Through interviews, writing, and fieldwork, Tragedy of Edgeland re-examines the way that society defines the value of sites through the collective memory of Shepherd's Bush Market. It attempts to explore and question Supermodernity in the context of sociocultural and urban transformation and places conceptual research in a specific site and context, eventually evolving into a set of community-driven experimental archives.
This graduation project got a distinction grade. You can find parts of the research process via the UAL graduate showcase in January.
The publication Dust is a conceptual study of the entire project's context while Pieces invited owners at Shepherd's Bush Market to share their memories of the market and feelings about the regeneration plan. These words are translated into a specially designed font that represents liminal space.
Also, I invited owners to paint a graphic on the receipts, which might be something they would probably think out if they thought of the market. From these fragile, precious, marginal sounds and landscapes, even people from outside the local culture can see the power in these archives, and the enduring cultural and emotional value.
