Amazing Animals: Butterfly
For this student project, the objective was to explore one form and adapt it in four different ways. I selected a Butterfly to create an encyclopedic drawing, a vectorized logo, a gesture drawing, and a transformational drawing. Ultimately keeping the focus on the form and function of the butterfly.
This is my encyclopedic or graphite sketch. I felt like I was successful at outlining the detail and texture of the butterfly. The shading definitely challenged my drawing abilities.
The final vectorized logo created in illustrator. The emphasis was on the design being able to withstand shrinkage and distress.
Four different thumbnails for my final logo design. I experimented with gestalt, geometric shapes, form and function, contrast, and movement.
My best gesture drawing that I made with a brush pen in my sketchbook. I aimed to capture the form and flow of the butterfly with the continuous line.
The final transformation drawing. I transformed the butterfly wings into the elephants ears.
Alternate transformations that I created experimenting with form, function, and symbolism of a butterfly.
