ARC - Marine Emergency Shelter

2014 IDEA Finalist

With the solid and flippable structure design, ARC is a reliable shelter in raging seas.  Based on the mission of getting as many as possible people on board, ARC is able to provide a safe, dry, warm and comfortable place for people to survive during marine disasters. Moreover, ARC is designed to prevent people from suffering  emotional or psychological trauma.

The Arc is aerated and designed as ship equipment for emergency. It offers people complete protection and life supplies to stay alive. also the double sides design makes ARC an invincible fighter against any extremes. People can always go inside no matter which of the two sides is on top.
ARC is designed for large ships as emergency backup and  provide a better rescue plan for massive marine disaster. It is sealed in a capsule when not in use. When marine disaster actually happens, the gas launching devices on the ship cast these capsules to the sea, and the air pumps start to fill with air till the shelter is formed. The whole process is fast and prior to the launch of lifeboats. After the evacuation, The lifeboats deliver people to these island fortresses and go searching other drowning or floating people in case the boats are too full. The holding capacity of ARC is 100- 150 people. It is huge but stable due to its triangle shape and also the double sides design which  is a backup plan in case it is turned over by the wave.  Additionally, the pillar in the center functions as signal light, air pump, hydroelectric generator, water purification system, and breathing air supply. ARC is designed for large ships as emergency backup and  provide a better rescue plan for massive marine disaster.
