Balance Between Light and Dark

This project was to create a black and white Notan that is has a sense of balance through both symmetry and asymmetrical balance. The goal was to create something that was interesting to look like, playful symmetry, unique shape combinations, and attractive composition.
The first step was to make a list of 20 ideas and put a star next to 4 ideas that we liked. After that, we used those ideas to make 2 thumbnails for each idea making 8 thumb nails in total. These thumbnails were drawn in a 2.5" by 2.5" square and for the final we picked our favorite idea.
The four ideas that Abbie picked out of the 20 ideas were,
Number 8: Sun, Moon, and clouds.
Number 9: Balloons in the sky, w/clouds
Number 18: Lily pads and fish
and Number 22: Rain, Rainbow, and clouds.
The two thumbnails for the idea Rain, Rainbow, and clouds.
The two thumbnails for the idea: Balloons in the sky with clouds.
The two thumbnails for the idea: Sun, Moon, and stars.
For the last two thumbnails the idea was lily pads and fish. I decided to do a koi fish with a combination of catfish.
The final Notan design that I choose was the koi fish with lily pads.
To make the final design for this assignment, we used black construction paper, a X-Acto knife to cut the design out and glue to glue the pieces on the Bristol board.
