Tardigrade DEMO 2022

Demo is a festival that took place on October 6 in the Netherlands. During one day the best shortlisted motion works from all over the world had been broadcasting on the screens in public places, including metro and railway stations, billboards and malls.

My work, applied for the festival, consisted of six videos – half of them were about microorganisms and another half, made as a part of a digital zine project in Bbe school, explored how our feelings and emotional state had changed since the last days of February.

The 'Tardigrade' was shortlisted for Demo. This was the most time-consuming video, which I spend three months on. While making it, I aquired rigging skills and learned how to sculpt microorganism. The tools I used included 3D-coat, Cinema 4D, Redshift, After Effect.

Tardigrades, or water bears, is a microscopic invertebrates. Moves very slowly — at a speed of 2–3 mm per minute. Tardigrades are able to endure extreme conditions and, for instance, survive dessication — complete dehydration, even in open space: once during the scientific experiment tardigrades were dried out after spending several days in open space but after returning aboard the spacecraft, all the organisms returned to normal state. Currently, more than 1000 species of tardigrades are known.
