Empatia VR - Schizophrenia

Project in virtual reality that puts the user in the point of view of a person diagnosed with schizophrenia in order to generate empathy and greater understanding about this disease.

The experience consists of carrying out a cognitive and concentration assessment task, in this case a stroop test. During this test, the user is gradually exposed to auditory and visual hallucinations in the form of voices, moving pictures, spiders and various types of vision changes.

Tasks performed by me in this project:
- Conception of game design
- Programming of mechanics
- Interface design
- Animations and visual effects.
- Sound effects and lights.
- Scenario, several elements were developed by me using the Blender tool, others were acquired from third parties in order to reduce development time.

The project also included the collection of biological signals, in this case the heart rate variance and galvanic skin conductance, using the Biopac Student Lab System MP36 device. The use of this environment for research purposes gave rise to the following article: Impact of a Virtual Reality-Based Simulation on Empathy and Attitudes Toward Schizophrenia, https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2022.814984
