AMD 317 MOPA Museum Visit
I visited the MOPA on Friday, November 18th, and found the experience to be really inspiring to see all the different kinds of work that was showcased in the exhibitions. I was particularly drawn to the area that highlighted student work with the theme of “Myth and Magic.” I was honestly incredibly impressed with the work that even kids in elementary school were able to produce! Some of the pieces that I was drawn to are shown above, the first piece is based on the piece titled “Cat’s Eye View” by Florian Lim-Schmid. I thought the double exposure assignment was fun and I wanted to continue creating images like that, and this piece drew me to it because of the cat. I used my cat to get the photos, which was difficult since she does not like to stay still! The second image I chose was “Cultural Collision” by Mariana Rich Guillot. I was attracted to the way they used multiple images in their work, I tried to replicate the building and beachside they had in their piece. I did not have any dark material or background nearby unfortunately, so I had to edit it in photoshop to a darker gray and I blended the hands together since I had to take a photo of each hand. The third photo I chose was “Narrative Transportation” by Julianne Cummings. I thought the content of the work was really fun to look at and I wanted to recreate it with a book I’ve read multiple times, Jurassic Park. This was a fun one to recreate as I used three separate photos and did some selections in photoshop to make it fit. The fourth photo is “Squint” by Lauren Prochazka. I had done an assignment in my first photoshop class that considered how pixelated a photo could be before you can’t recognize the person in it. This specific piece was explained to represent the imperfections in society and how the pixelation relates to how we have to see it for what it is. I found this to be really insightful which is what also drew me to it. The final piece I chose was “Reluctant Billy Goat Gruff” by Zoey Lestyk. I found this piece really interesting in how they used their story of Billy the Goat and related it to life and how change is difficult. I wanted to recreate this, but I did not have anything that resembled a goat unfortunately, so I utilized a wolf hat I had instead. I really enjoyed my time at the MOPA and the artwork in the Sony exhibition was also incredible, but I appreciated how much of the younger artists' work were being displayed and their creativity and utilization of programs like photoshop, so I wanted to pay homage to their work instead.
