Looking up at the moon, one can't help but be awestruck by its natural beauty. It is a remarkable place that continues to fascinate us even after centuries of exploration. As humans, we have the desire to go beyond and explore our solar system and beyond.

“Reaching for the Moon” is a digital photograph of an astronaut standing on a step ladder reaching for the moon. As part of the Little Astronaut series, this is about capturing the feeling of a goal accomplished. The moon itself is a representation of a big dream. For the little astronaut, being able to reach the moon is a dream that they achieved. And as a representation of the past journey and effort, the step ladder is short because when we look at the memories in the past, it seems like they just happened yesterday.

This photograph was created by composing some soft materials and my own custom miniatures. I digitally designed the moon, astronaut, and ladder on my computer, then I printed them using my 3d printer. I carefully picked soft materials that will make viewers think that the photograph was taken inside a bedroom because it is a place where people start to dream. In this photograph, I choose plush fabric as the tiny hill to represent a plush toy that people find in a bedroom.

I created this artwork as an expression of hope and wishes. A reminder of a childhood dream. A dream that I have when I believe that everything is possible.  This artwork is perfect for framing and hanging in a child’s bedroom or even in the living room to remind ourselves of our dreams and goals.
