One of my duties as Senior Designer at Rolo Studios is developing the brand for Metatierra, this ambitious DAO project located at the very heart of the Eje Cafetero (Coffee Axis) in Colombia.
The intention of this logo is to point at the door the metaverse opens to exit to another reality. But many elements are up for inclusion, so the first step was keeping the typeface the rest of the team was already using.
Zabal is a bold type, perfect to communicate how big this project is.
Afterwards, I felt a bit curious and started using it with a few colors the previous designer had used. Now it's the time to elaborate what's the deal with Metatierra. According to its Director, it will "aim to become the next Silicon Valley in LatinAmerica". And as this is a Colombia based project, it's mandatory to include the environment on it.
This is when the "electric coffee grain" showed up, as an attempt to integrate the concepts Eje Cafetero + electricity + Metatierra.
But suddenly, the boss decided he wanted to ADD A BULL INTO THE MIX, to include a bit of stock market lingo
(Or maybe something simpler?)
A heroic-like bull aiming high.
-Mmmmhhh what about adding... a couple of icons making reference to the Colombian landscape and a rocketship, as visual poetry because we keep aiming for the stars?
-Ok!
(I wanted to preserve something that would give the bull an "electric" character. Didn't work)
-Mmmmhhh now... what if we mixed the bull and the rocket ship? Had a couple designers on it, yet didn't come up with anything I'd like.
- "Uuuurrr, like this??"
- "Well, don't forget about the other elements, Gail!"
-Say no moooreee!!
-Mmmmhhh now... what if we integrated the "M" on Metatierra, or even the whole name on the design?
- Right away.
(Then a long hiatus started, time I used to come up with more stuff like this adorable, simple and impactful isologo. Netflix inspired... a bit.)
-WE NEED A SECOND BRAINSTORM NOW
-Alright!
Chance to start introducing the MINOTAUR boss suddenly wanted.
And some more nonsense went on...
But in the end, love won.
