2021 KU Orientation

Every summer KU invites it’s incoming class of freshmen to an on-campus information and enrollment event. The goals of this campaign are to call for registration, reduce melt through community and brand building, and successfully guide the student through the day — enrolled, KU ID in hand, and, confident to begin their college career.

This iteration of the campaign focuses on an aspirational visual language grounded in our campus iconography. Sprays of sky-blue halftone textures peek confetti-like behind grand campus architecture. Buildings removed from their place and color lend an other-worldly quality that allude to a student’s dawning future. Brushed lines outline the images, the color yellow representing a student’s potential, shining like a light.

My role in this project was to create the visual identity, present to the partner for buy-in, and implement all visual assets. I also worked with the vendor to ensure production of assets met our high standard of quality.
The communication for this event begins with the invitation mailer. I was inspired by the notes I passed in the hallways in high school and wanted an exciting and stand-out piece for students to kick-off their first official transactions with their chosen university. This direct-mail publication opens into a poster that features snapshots of campus life in a yearbook-style collage. I was honored to have this invitation featured in Fold Factory's: Edgy Angled Gate Mailers.
The majority of communication leading up to Orientation comes through email. I created a unique collaged header for each email using the rules, textures, and elements I created for this expression as a guide.
Wayfinding is a key component to the success of this campaign. Sail banners and directional signage lead attendees across campus. Posters and vinyl banners fill the event space ensuring attendees get to each appointment without hassle and on time.
Event collateral such as: folders, notebooks, drawstring bags, pens, branded name tags and powerpoint slides are all included in this campaign.
