VILLA AQUAMARINE

Architects: Vernon Head Architects
Floor area: 1300м²
Project date: 2014 - 2018
Location: Camps Bay, Cape Town
Concept Statement

To design a holiday home for a couple who spends their summers in Cape Town and has a passion for entertaining, traveling and collecting contemporary art.

The intent of the design was to embrace the magnificent ocean and mountain views and to provide a gallery-like environment to display art. With seven en-suite rooms and spacious entertainment areas, this seaside home was designed to host a large number of guests at one time. The challenge was to balance the open space so it also feels homely and comfortable for one person to live in.
Large windows, crisp white walls and high ceilings allow for natural light to fill the open plan interior and emphasize the artwork on display.
We selected light oak flooring and natural wood textures to create warmth and balance the crisp white walls and ceilings. A combination of timber slatted screens, hidden roller blinds and sheer curtains were introduced to control the glare from the sun reflected on the ocean and for privacy from the neighbors.
Natural stone tiles were used as a link to the natural rocks on the beach and mountains, with timber elements and plants to soften the linear architecture.
We introduced comfortable lounging areas throughout the house to create a sense of intimacy and allow for relaxation and easy-living.
Built-in cupboards, doors and windows extend all the way to the ceiling the add visual height and volume to the interior.
Ocean colours and the movement of water was an inspiration for the interior.
All bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms were designed with maximum ocean views.
A window into the pool adds light and movement of water into a tranquil en-suite bathroom.
