In 2016, the Registrar at National Day Calendar announced that Hydration Day would be celebrated annually on June 23rd. The SafeTGard Corporation created National Hydration Day in honor of football Coach Victor Hawkins. Hawkins invented a mouthguard which released electrolytes to hydrate his players in-game. The intent of the holiday is to increase awareness of the importance of staying hydrated.
