The Streets Where I Live — The R-10 Version
If you know me, you'll know I'm an inveterate complainer.
Most recently in these parts I've been griping about the weight of my Canon DSLR and all that glass and all the years I've been hauling it around and how it is so much easier to carry an iP12 in my pocket and so on. A photographer friend finally got tired of my moaning and suggested I do what he did: trade in his DSLR and lenses for a Panasonic Lumix compact with built-in zoom. So, that's what I did.
Unfortunately, that didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. Oh, I stopped complaining, all right. (At least about my camera woes.) However, I never really warmed to the ZS-200. It's a good package and pretty much the twin of a Leica compact, and it did everything the grumbling photographer might want. But...
Was it because it was small and my hands are big? Or that the controls were a bit fiddly? Or that I had a Canon brain: I had been imprinted with Canon menus and controls? Whatever the reason, the ZS-200 and I weren't a match. Two weeks later I traded it in (yeah, I know) for the new Canon mirrorless, R-10 with an 18-150 slow-ish zoom. It's much lighter than my old DSLR + glass and feels good in the hand. In fact, I've been carrying it around with a wrist strap.
