Senior/Child Mentoring Center

South Philadelphia Mentoring Center
Hello all! This is my second design project from my Sophomore spring semester. For this project, we were given a pre-existing building in the South Philadelphia area. Our assignment was to create a mentoring center where children who are school aged could come to be assisted with homework or take classes with volunteering and relatively healthy seniors. The center would also provide various classes and activities for the seniors during school hours. The goal was to provide a community center where the elderly could mentor the young, and the young could reach out to the elderly. There is a kitchen for cooking lessons as well as a craft room for activities and classes. The senior lounge is exclusively for the elderly volunteers and the great room was designed to be open and flexible to accommodate a variety of current and future needs and uses. As usual, my project is ADA compliant and every drawing is hand drafted and rendered.

This curved wall elevation is a mural depecting a map of South Philadelphia. It is a custom wall paper print.

My materials board. Each color designates a specific area. Red is administrative areas (i.e. reception, waiting room, and offices), orange is for bathrooms, yellow is for the kitchen, green is for the great room, blue is for the seniors' lounge, and purple is for the craft room. Grey is used as the neutral color for the colors to pop off from. All of the materials are commercial grade and the furniture was picked to be comfortable for children but easy to get in and out of for the elderly.
