The Stolen Pearls: An interactive storybook application

The Storybook Lab is a project offered by Srishti that works towards writing and illustrating engaging interactive and educational storybooks for children. Along with my two partners Anuja Shukla and Priya Gandhi, we re-interpreted an old Indian folktale and translated it into a multi-dimensional interactive story that can be accessed on a tablet. The aim was to make the app non-linear, while also making it bilingual.

We have attempted to create a well-rounded prototype of an interactive storybook app that will create a curiosity in children to play with the elements in the technology, keeping in mind the affordances of an eBook. We hoped to incorporate a quest element in the story that will engage the child as an active participant with a sense of something unfolding in a journey, while maximizing the exciting applicable aspects of the medium. We have aimed to keep the flavour of the folktale as we developed the story.
