Stark County Court Angels - Protecting Wards

Judge Dixie Park presides over the Probate Division of the Court of Common Pleas in Stark County, Ohio. In addition to probate and estate law, Judge Dixie Park has volunteers through the Stark County Court Angel Program, which has an active Facebook page

A Court Angel is a volunteer who helps check on wards of the court. In probate court, a ward is someone who is deemed by the court to be incompetent. This person requires a legal guardian who will advocate and make decisions on their behalf.

The Stark County Court Angel Visitor Program recruits and trains volunteers who can check on wards and assess whether they are receiving the proper level of care. The goal is to ensure wards are safe and have comfortable and appropriate living conditions.

Court Angels visit and talk to wards and their guardians, asking if they need anything or have any concerns. They also speak with guardians and caregivers, then use a standard reporting form for their observations. Court Angels can make recommendations, such as whether the ward needs a medical examination or services. Other scenarios include reporting that the guardian has become unable to properly care for the ward due to advanced age or health issues.
