Student Protests for Safety Road
On 29 July 2018, two Students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College died instantly when Jabale Nur Bus hit them. This incident made the whole town shocked. Students from all the educational institutions came down to the streets to ensure the safety of lives on the roads. From 29th July to 8th August, continuous protest of 10 days forced the government to show respect towards the 9 points by the students. The Govt. Agreed to introduce new Strict rules, announcing traffic week to make people aware, more exquisite process to be taken while appointing drivers, etc. But it didn’t take much time to face another accident. On 24 Nov 2021, a student at Notre Dame College lost his life. Exactly 5 days after that, Md. Mainuddin, an SSC examinee, died after getting hit by a truck. Two consecutive accidents made the whole country think about road security again. The spirit that compelled the students to get themselves onto the roads in 2018, made them do so again. Students from all the institutions take their place on the streets. Besides ensuring road safety, students' right to half fare again came into the limelight. Govt. One more time agreed to the conditions provided by the students. Though all the transportations now ensure half fare, how much safe are our roads now? Unexperienced driver transports without fitness licenses and overtaking tendencies are still seen very commonly on our streets. The Common people are still waiting for all the rules and regulations to be implemented to get a better and safe city.
