Zasha's Restaurant - Lounge - Cafe

This space is used as both an eatery and a hotel restaurant, therefore distinct spaces and areas needed to be created.  The height reaching nearly 5 metres, and the space comprising of 2 large glass walls, limitations arose with the existing staircase.  Therefore the steel railings were removed and the wooden stairs pushed a metre or so to the right, to create a more dynamic and open space.  A gypsum wall was erected to divide the hotel buffet area away from casual cafe, and upstairs was reserved for more private dining tables and a lounge and bar area.

In terms of style and colour schemes, the design was restricted due to the pre-existing flooring, a tortoise-style melange of colours.  This led to the selection of a neutral palette of colours and simple materials, like birch wood, white paint and cream marble for downstairs, and darker tones and smarter materials (such as leatherettes and wallpapers) for the moodier lounge upstairs, where lighting has been kept ambient.

Special thanks go to Mr Nikki Calleja for his unending courtesy.
