Mentone Grammar Rugby

Since I left the school in 2006, I have had an active role in the management and coaching of the team. This year we decided to change the school rugby jersey, originally we used Canterbury as the manufacturer, however since then Gilbert has played a huge part in the old boys club rugby so we wanted to switch over to them. Ironically all the gear is made at the same chinese factory then re-banded and sold at different prices.

Rugby started at MGS in 2004 and we had a basic royal blue hooped long sleeve jersey, until 2005 where we based the new design on the ACT Brumbies jersey. It was made from printed cotton until 2008 when we switched to polyester sublimated material.

I wanted to incorporate as much of the previous designs as possible with the new design.
The only real constraints to the brief were the School Colors (Navy Blue, "light" Gold  and White) and the school/ Gilbert emblem.

I really liked the idea of using white on the side of the jersey, It has a slimming effect haha, I suppose this is some-what more important to a front rower. However it is effective - used on the Melbourne Rebels Jersey.

This design was a modernized version of the current design with the "goldern shoulders" and using the white slimming effect.

I feel that this design ticks the boxes. It not only brings back the old hooped design but almost has a professional feel to the jersey - simple yet extremely effective.
(BELOW) - the pre-production version of the jersey, which I am extremely happy with.
