George Hardie I Workshop

Tive a oportunidade de fazer um workshop com o designer George Hardie. George Hardie (1944) é um designer gráfico, ilustrador e professor britânico, mais conhecido pelo seu trabalho em capas de álbuns de rock e bandas com o grupo britânico Hipgnosis.
Depois de uma palestra enriquecedora, onde o designer partilhou um pouco do seu percurso, filosofia e métodos de trabalho começámos o workshop intensivo. Tivemos um dia para fazer um poster para uma manifestação chamada "Graphic Opinions". No meu caso, protestei contra a desflorestação por causa do crescimento desenfreado das cidades.
Tinhamos um template definido, com o texto "Something’s missing", com o formato e texto estabelecidos o que nos permitiu focar unica e exclusivamente na ilustração. Tinhamos de comunicar uma mensagem directa que não necessitasse do auxílio do texto, para que fosse universalmente compreendida.
A escolha do branco e preto resulta para transmitir a mensagem, já que as ideias de certo/errado, bom/mau e luz/sombra são frequentemente associadas com estas cores.
A silhueta a negro mostra uma cidade repleta de edíficos. A silhueta a branco mostra-nos uma floresta, com árvores. O que falta nas nossas cidades? Na nossa sociedade? Onde está o respeito pela Natureza?
Fica a pergunta no ar, "o que está a faltar?"
I had the opportunity to take a workshop with designer George Hardie. George Hardie (1944) is a British graphic designer, illustrator and teacher, best known for his work on rock album covers and bands with the British group Hipgnosis.
After an enriching lecture, where the designer shared some of his background, philosophy and working methods, we started the intensive workshop. We had one day to make a poster for a demonstration called "Graphic Opinions". In my case, I was protesting against deforestation because of the unbridled growth of cities.
We had a template defined, with the text "Something's missing", with the format and text established which allowed us to focus solely and exclusively on the illustration. We had to communicate a direct message that didn't need the help of text to be universally understood.
The choice of black and white works to convey the message, since the ideas of right/wrong, good/bad, and light/shadow are often associated with these colors.
The black silhouette shows a city full of buildings. The white silhouette shows us a forest, with trees. What is missing in our cities? In our society? Where is the respect for Nature?
The question remains in the air, "what is missing?"
