Insane Fantasy Rider

This game is the result of a one weekend project at the Global Game Jam 2013, in which I participated as a digital artist. The theme of 2013 was hearthbeat.

In our game you play with Gaspar and Oaru. Gaspar is stuck in a paradoxical dimension and wants to travel back to his own dimension. The only way he can do this is by using his buddy Oaru. Oaru has got magical powers which make it possible to travel between dimension, only for these power to be activated Oaru must be fed with uppers and downers.

Oaru travels faster the more uppers he gets, but too much wil give him an overdose. Stopping to eat uppers will make him lose his power, and also the power to travel. The goal of the game is to get the best highscore. The faster Oaru travels, the higher his bonus over time is. So you want to keep going as fast as possible but still keep Oaru alive. How Oaru's doing is seen in the visualisation of the background, if near an overdos, you get a hearthbeat feedback in your screen and controller.

The game. The orange, green, blue and purple animals are uppers and downers. As you can see in the visual style, Oaru isn't traveling at high speed.
Oaru is traveling with a good speed, but still not as high as you probably want.
Oaru's doing pretty good, He's traveling fast and seems to enjoy his ride.
Uh Oh! Seems like Oaru's going to fast, this should be the moment to be sure to eat downers fast. Don't eat to much otherwise you'll lose your powers.
As said, you couldn't resist it...

Oaru takes a bite.
Oaru's happy and licks his good friend Gaspar.
Oaru's green tail shows he's going up and good. When he gets a red tail, you should watch out!
