J and F Building Extension Project

J AND F BLOCK BUILDING EXTENSION PROJECT ON QUT GARDENS POINT CAMPUS

BRIEF: The project is to redevelop F and J block on the Gardens Point campus. The task is to introduce innovative architectural features that provide additional functions and impressions to otherwise a more conventional architectural entity. A new proposed building extension is to be designed that uses the existing and newly proposed structures to respond to client requirements. The new design should preserve the original facades of the building and is expected that some internal spaces of the existing building are redesigned so that the existing building and the new extension function together more fluidly.

REQUIREMENTS:
- There are three or more levels above ground (including the ground level).
- At least three levels in the building extension should have 200m2 or more floor area.
- The proposal includes at least one basement floor with a suitable foundation and retaining walls. It should have a space to store 20 or more bicycles and the end of the trip facilities. It should have direct access to the outside so that cyclists do not need to enter the building to access the storage area.
- At least one entire facade of the new extension is a curtain-wall.
- The extension should accommodate a column-less lecture theatre with at least 250 seats.
- The extension should have an inclined or curved roof (or roofs) that considers rainwater drainage.
