Jocelyn Alo | 122 Homeruns

JOCELYN ALO
There are legends in every sport... for college softball Oklahoma University's Jocelyn Alo has cemented her name in the history books. The senior won her second National Championship just last week.

This year, she broke the NCAA D1 Homerun record previously held by her Sooner sister Lauren Chamberlain ('15). What made the record break extra special? Alo broke the record in her home state of Hawaii with her friends and family supporting her.

Elements
I used 2 pictures of Jocelyn, one of her at bat and another of her rounding the bases after a homerun. I originally wanted to use a different celebration photo but the red on red clashed to the eye, so I found different images. I used the font 'Jared' because of the streaked marker like look. With low opacity and the right coloring, it created just the right look.

The scene is the island of O'ahu, where Jocelyn is from. The yellow hibiscus is the national flower of Hawaii. I originally started with the hibiscus and the idea of making that the center point and ended up only making it an element.
The Final
The "122 Homeruns" text was easy I knew the look I was going for, as described above. I chose yellow to match the flower. At the last minute I ended up putting the light/dusty pink shadow behind Jocelyn. I did it because the image felt flat, and I wanted to create dimension.

I knew I wanted to highlight the homerun record because... HOW COULD I NOT!? I also wanted to highlight Jocelyn specifically because of her impact on the game. Not only is she a 2-time champion but she acts as inspiration for little Brown girls, girls from Hawaii and girls who hope to play for OU one day.
