Apollo was a greekgod, he often had a new love intrest and this time a river nymph , Daphne had caught his eye. He liked her and when the god Eros (latin-cupid), who apollo had not too long ago insulted, took notice of that he shot an arrow to both the god and nymph. He struck Daphne with an arrow made of lead, which made her hate the god of the sun. Eros struck Apollo with an arrow made of gold, which made him fall madly and uncontrollably in love with her. 

He kept chasing her and begging her to love him while she kept running away from him until eventually she had enough and begged someone to help, the person changed her into a laurel tree, apollo heart broken with an arrow stuck in his heart, never stopped wearing a laurel crown since that day.
