Oxford and its Waterways

Oxford and its Waterways
My local city of Oxford has a deep and historic connection with its rivers and canal; these waterways are diverse environments that sustain a variety of human and natural habitats and activities.

This Fine Art monochrome approach to these landscape images, focusing on texture, contrast and shape, conveys the relationships, juxtapositions and connections between the built and the natural environment and how we interact with them.

Inspired by the American landscape photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams (1894 - 1984) and the historic works of Oxford photographer Henry William Taunt (1842–1922), these photographs explore old and new relationships between Oxford and its waterways, and how those relationships have changed over time in terms the evidence of decay, regeneration and renewal.
