Creating the Dollar

Currency Project:
Creating the Dollar
This project was created for the purpose of redesigning the dollar bill with important people or places for the portraits. After talking with some of my friends and family, I formed a list of who they wanted to see on the dollar bill. I selected the most popular among the list that included scientists and actors. I researched them to find the most important information and famous quotes to include in the project. I changed the traditional orientation of a landscape bill to a vertical one to better see the design in our most natural way of holding money. I changed the color from the older green color of modern currency because it feels dated compared to other countries. It’s also easier to organize when things are color coded.

The typefaces I used are similar to modern day currency to keep some things from changing too much and making it feel too foreign. Also in keeping some of the original designs, I used and or updated the series numbers, and watermarks amongst other things. By doing this, It still feels like an American dollar but, with an updated look. By choosing people of color and women to be on the bills, it will feel more welcoming to other races and genders. The dollar is something everyone will interact with at some point when living or visiting our country so, equality is an important thing to display.
