Kojolino - Pepper Mill

Kōjōlino
Concept Design | 2022 | Industrial Design

The Kōjōlino is a pepper mill that elevates the sensory experience of food preparation beyond just taste and smell. Its design merges Asian and Western architectural elements The Beech wood body has grooves echoing a fluted column that provides a better grip and ease of use. While adding pepper to food adds more depth and texture, this pepper mill adds beauty and elegance to the kitchen and to the dining experience.

Kōjōlino is a homage to the use of pepper in diverse cultures. The name Kōjōlino itself is derived from a combination of the word mill in two languages, Kōjō (Japanese) + lino (a contraction of the Italian mulino).  Its body is inspired by the simple symmetry of Chinese and Japanese overhanging roof layers mounted on a strong Greek column. Simple to strong, mild to intense – the spectrum of flavors to which pepper lends itself.  The material used echoes the same vibe with beechwood in its natural color accentuated by black, a color that represents strength and sophistication, the color of pepper too. The stainless steel knob that controls the coarseness of the peppercorn rests on the ring-like ripples of a Japanese Zen garden, a call to cooking with the senses. After all, cooking is intuitive and every twist of the mill brings endless flavorful possibilities!
