DESIGN STUDIO
TYPOGRAPHY INSTALLATION
This is an outcome of a one week brief where myself and four other students were asked to create something for our design studio at Southampton Solent University. The outcome is a typographic design expressing an inspirational quote from Paula Scher - "It is through mistakes that you actually can grow, you have to get bad in order to get good." which we thought was appropriate to encourage students to learn from their mistakes and never settle for second best.
The design is comprised of both English and Norwegian words, where some words are translated into Norwegian and some remain in English (this is because in our final year, Norwegian students come to study at our university to complete their degree) and is orientated so that all words in Norwegian extend out from the pillar and all english words are painted onto the pillar. In order to allow English speaking students to still be able to read this typographic quote, we applied translation sub-text by the Norwegian type to complete the legibility.
