7 CREATIVE STRATEGIES

7 CREATIVE STRATEGIES

In my ART235 Graphic Design course we needed to learn about and showcase the seven creative strategies. For this project we were tasked with choosing an object, brainstorming and creating ways to show that object using the seven creative strategies.
COMBINATION: "JUST A LIGHT SNACK"
In this piece, I wanted to combine two very unrelated objects. I liked how the donut had the roundness like a normal light bulb and wanted to show a play on words as well by titling this combination, "Just a Light Snack."
JUXTAPOSTION: "SO CLOSE"
For this juxtaposition piece, I titled it "So Close" because this made me think of two puzzle pieces that are so close to matching, but won't ever fit together. I wanted to show the close similarity of the shapes of both the pear and the lightbulb and all the differences in the material and color.
ISOLATION: "LEAVE THE LIGHT ON"
This piece was a fun way to showcase isolation amongst my chosen object. The lit bulb clearly stands out from all the unlit bulbs, hence the title, "Leave the Light On." I also wanted to arrange the lightbulbs in a way that was unique and different than how we normally see them.
METAPHOR/SIMILE: "BRIGHT MIND"
This piece is "Bright Mind" and I wanted to show a play on words and ideas. An easily recognizable image is that of a lightbulb going off above a person's head to signal an idea has come about. I wanted to take that one step further and have the head be a lightbulb.
CHANGE OF CONTEXT OR ENVIRONMENT: "MOONLIGHT"
The moon lights up the night and the lightbulbs light up the home so I wanted to combine the two and have them work together in this scene. I named this piece "Moonlight" to emphasize the two objects.
PHYSICAL SHAPE SIMILARITY: "LIGHT UP THE SKY"
The shape similarity between a hot air balloon and a lightbulb is easily recognizable. I thought the title "Light Up the Sky" was a great play on words. I also loved the light already in the sky surrounding the object.
MATERIAL CHANGE, SWAP OR FOCUS: "BRIGHT IDEA"
For this final piece I changed the glass to a crumpled piece of bright yellow paper. I was thinking of how ideas are often written on paper and loved that this paper was brightly colored. I titled this "Bright Idea" to combine my inspiration for the combination.
