Bangalore, for many years, was known as a textile hub but now it has transformed into the IT center of India. Our project looked into what lead to this transformation.
Charles Babbage, the father of the computer, used the punched cards used in the jacquard loom to program his computer. The punched cards were later used by IBM to store all their data.
We tried to capture this transition very literally in out interactive installation. We used a completely stripped handloom and attached sensors to it. We programmed the sensors to detect the movement of the shuttle and everytime the there was movement we had a projection that showed the warp and weft intertwining.
