The Seven Deadly Sins

The Seven Deadly Sins Project
In this final project in the Graphic Processes class at Johnson County Community College I was tasked to create and design visuals that represent either the seven deadly sins or the seven heavenly virtues. I chose to design visuals for the seven deadly sins. I developed several different graphical arrangements that represent each of the seven deadly sins. After designing each of the sins I then sent the InDesign file to the Newspaper Club to be printed on 55gsm tabloid newspaper. The images used in my designs are both used from Pixabay and photographed myself.

The links to the Newspaper Club and Pixabay are provided in the linked files to the right.

(The following are the requirements for visually showing the seven deadly sins):

Lust: Analog/collage of found and/or photographed imagery
Gluttony: Typographic representation using only letter forms
Greed: Personal photo in color
Sloth: Personal photo in duotone colors
Wrath: Photographed object(s)
Envy: Found images and handwriting
Pride: Constructed image with pride handwritten within the image
The image used in the front cover is from Pixabay and was originally supposed to depict heaven, but I edited it to look more like a portal to hell.
Wrath is when you have uncontrollable anger. The requirement was to photograph an object that shows wrath. I grabbed a kitchen knife and squeezed red food coloring all over the knife and my hand to give the illusion of blood. The image is supposed to show a weapon that was just used to possibly commit murder.
Gluttony is when you unnecessarily over eat. The requirements were to design a typographic representation using only letter forms. I placed an "O" and added teeth to make the opening look like a mouth. I then typed "over-indulgence" over and over again then placed the text in a spiral to show "over eating."
Lust is when you have a strong desire for sexual activity that obscures your judgment. The requirements were to put together a collage of found and/or photographed subjects. I wanted to show someone presenting the visual of all genders showing their bare bodies and sexual, physical touch. I also added an orange rose which represents lust. The eye is meant to represent the action of staring at someone with the gaze of sexual desire.
This is a digitized booklet that shows my designs as they appear on the physical newspaper.
