Bedside Table

A piece of furniture can bring so much more to a room then just its function. After looking at some of the most iconic furniture ever created, one gets a sense that not only will it become a functioning part of one's home but part of one's own identity. Designing for an emotion or feeling to the user is what I always strive to do in my own designs.
With my bedside table, I designed using characteristics that would set the mood of a room. I wanted the user to feel calm and relaxed by its appearance. I looked to nature and colors for my inspiration and expressed it by using live edge walnut doors incased in a simple white silhouette frame. My design pairs the woods organic form and its notion of symmetry with function. The user then interacts with the soft edges and warmth of the wood while opening the doors. Lastly, the white balances the character of the wood and provides a space for the eye to relax.
