Traveling is an excellent way to unwind. It is also a perfect way to learn about other cultures. One place to go to learn about different cultures is Scotland, specifically Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh Castle is not just the most well-known but also one of the best-kept of Scotland's many historic castles. This magnificent castle draws over 1.5 million tourists each year, all of whom are looking for a taste of medieval life in Scotland. It is convenient to travel to due to its proximity to two international airports- Glasgow airport and Edinburgh airport, which are both easily accessible by rail or vehicle.

With spectacular views of the city, the castle is positioned high above a dormant volcano. It was built not just as a bastion against invaders (it's said to be the most besieged castle in the British Isles) but also as a royal palace, with the earliest elements dating back to the early 1100s most notably St. Margaret's Chapel.

Edinburgh Castle is home to the Scottish Crown Jewels and the fabled Stone of Destiny, as well as displays of weaponry and armor and the Royal Palace of the Scottish Kings. Mons Meg, a large 15th-century canon, is also on exhibit and is still used for ceremonial reasons and a daily salute.
