The design input was to propose a plan for 30 housing units for young families that choose a rural context for their home, but depend economically on the city. The context is Smarjeske Toplice, a small village 12km away from Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The sorrounding area is defined by hills and forest, the village itself it’s situated on a hill. Typical for Slovenia is the connection with the forest, the country’s most valuable asset.
The main purpose was to create a transition between a forest and a village. The result is a forest of totems finding their place among the trees.
