The whole Church and convent of Graça is located in Largo da Graça , in the parish of São Vicente , in Lisbon. It faces a viewpoint overlooking the city and the river.

It belongs to the Order of the Augustinian Hermits (Ordo eremitarum Sancti Augustini), associated to the Order of Saint Augustine , and for that reason, being here based in Portugal, it was also known as the Order of the Gracians

In 1271 the construction of the convent began, with facilities for 50 hermit friars shoes of St. Augustine , the works being sponsored by D. Afonso III .

The convent became head of the Province of Portugal of the Order of Saint Augustine from 1291 until its extinction in 1834 .

we came across this beautiful church almost by chance as we just kept walking around in Alfama. stunning interiors but some renovation work was going on and there was not a soul around.
