Timber
- Nagano, JAPAN, 2017/18

In order to focus on natural objects involved in cultural trace, ’Timber’ is a project that the decaying timbers, carried from a collapsed house, were re-installed in an artificial location.

The scattered timbers there were slowly decaying and losing their former artificial role. At the same time, it once again started to progress the natural process stopped by sawing and machining, it therefore seemed to be in the natural cycle equally to the surrounding forest. I was interested in such a change in the natural object, carried then them to re-installed it at a log house. The reason for the beginning was to attempt seeing the natural property of timbers from the contrast between the living house and the dead house. Throughout this process, however, it became clear that I was rebuilding timbers according to artificial elements. It is possible that this was in response to the structure of the house and the form of the timbers, and the consequent artificial intention engraved on timbers emerged in the installation.

Then I photographed the installation as an unknown object without understanding how much time it would take for the artificial trace to disappear.
