This Pattern Collection was developed for an Illustration class. Based on the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the patterns pull elements from the various symbols used in the book. The colors are also influenced by the novel, giving a cohesion to the pattern collection as a whole.
The elements above represent the various symbols utilized within the plot of The Great Gatsby. Symbols of Wealth, Power, Hopelessness, and the American Dream are present among this collection, taking wide inspiration from the novel.
Color is an important aspect of The Great Gatsby. Green is often depicted as a symbol of unreachable dreams or wealth in the book. The gold comes through as an accent color, often used to depict the rich lifestyle of the roaring twenties era. The two colors work together to be true to the novel while maintaining color harmony.
