Des Moines County Arrest Counts Infographic

This infographic was created as a part of the final project for my Digital Media Strategies course in Fall of 2021. For this project I was required to collect a significant amount of data, interview it, show the calculations I performed in Excel, and then create an infographic displaying my findings. The data that I interviewed was arrest offense counts in the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office from 2009 to 2019.
After analyzing the findings I had collected, I decided to include the yearly change in arrest counts, (example: in 2019 there were 85 more arrests than in 2018) the average arrest counts for the 10 most common offenses for 2009-2019, (the arrest count data I found was broken down by offenses) the largest increase in arrests from one year to the next, the largest decrease in arrests from one year to the next, and the smallest change in arrests count from one year to the next on my infographic. I also included a ranking of total arrests annually for 2009 to 2019 from highest to lowest arrest counts in this infographic.
Finally at the bottom of the page, I wanted to show how the years with the lowest and highest arrest counts compare to the average number of arrests for each of the 10 most common offenses. To produce a visual explanation of this data, I created a graph that listed out the 10 most common offenses and presented the percent difference from the average (example: in 2016 there were 15.1% more arrests for aggravated assault than the average number of aggravated assault arrests from 2009-2019) for these two years 2012, represented by the black line, with the highest arrest count, & 2016, represented by the white line, with the lowest arrest count. I received a 43/45 on this project.
This project was completed in September of 2021.
