Motacilla alba
White wagtail | Buztanikara zuria |Lavandera blanca
In this project I want to show some images of the White Wagtail. It is a common bird in various habitats, often nesting near houses and water, as well as in towns and cities in Europe, mainly western and southern Europe.
Their diet consists of a wide variety of terrestrial and aquatic insects, although the consumption of larvae and adults of flies and mosquitoes stands out. The most used technique to capture them consists of searching and pecking on the ground and in shallow waters, with occasional chases on foot and in flight.
It has a long, narrow, black tail that constantly wags. It walks with jerky movements of the head and rushes towards the prey and stops suddenly, tail flicking with excitement.
Despite being a common bird, its presence and its song, as simple as a few chirping notes, makes my day. The photographs are taken in an artificial pond created in an area with water shortages in the hottest seasons.
The pond is completely naturalized and several individuals of White Wagtail come to eat. Due to this, for several years I have been able to observe the new generations of White Wagtails that are emerging.
