Nepalese Folk Art in Animation - A Study

A study of animation in Mithila Art, the art practice passed down from thousands of generations in South Asia, especially, India and Nepal. In this piece, I tried to protect and highlight the hand-drawn, rythmic lines and shapes and basic natural colors found in Mithila Art.
Typically, this is a wedding scene which probably would have been painted as mural in the wedding hall, representing wealth and fertility for the bride and groom.
There is no access to health care in remote Nepal. Large number of women face death during childbirth. This piece shows a man, probably a hubsand, carrying his pregnant wife on a bamboo basket, crossing a river and walking through the hills to take his wife to the far-away hospital.
Walking in the Darkenss, this clip represents the mentality of Nepalese youth, as they walk through life with little education, no mental health support and degrading state of the country.
Specifically, there used to be electricity shortages in 2000s. We had to carry a small oil lamp to walk around the house and study in the evenings. Those lamps were very dangerous and eye-straining to children but we had no other choice.
Kal Bhairav, a popular deity in Nepal is worshipped as the guard to the darkness and fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva himself.
In this digial painting, have tried to highlight the movement of Kal Bhairav's ferocious dance with his multiple hands and heads.
