The purpose of this art installation was to raise the awareness on gender equality in workplace. This is an art installation in celebration of the Bauhaus' 100th anniversary that was inspired by IKEA furniture that touched on the difficulties working women face in a day to day basis. Through the findings in the “Bauhaus female student history”, we see inequality beginning with the education system where I’ve included an invisible ceiling to show the restrictions that women experience within societal circles.
On the surface, we see equality offered to the women such as expanded education and more lucrative job opportunities. However, such opportunities given are meant to make society seem equal and those who offer them as generous. These “opportunities” or “equality” are offered to stop feminists from speaking up and acting out. They are merely tools used to ensure that the patriarchal hierarchy continue to dominate.
