For the last two weeks I have tackled the concept of creating a gig poster for a band. I knew I wanted to do something unique. I have always loved the fun associated with the disco genre of music, it is something I wish we saw more of in our current day. This was the basis of my idea. The band name and concept I came up with was Disco Daisies, the revival of disco! 

The beginning of my process was sketching. I thought of all things disco and even took the time to listen to some disco style music and look at disco inspired images. Below are my beginning sketches. 

I was channeling lots of funky shapes, colors and items. I immediately thought of pinks, oranges, yellows, and aquas. I was imagining quirky fonts and flowers and patterns. Disco is funky and I wanted to show that! 

After sketching and brainstorming I got right to work. I started without a concrete plan and just wanted to see where my creativity would take me. The only thing I was certain about was a band name, 'Disco Daisies.'

Above you will see my first draft. I liked the direction I was headed but I wasn't satisfied. The feedback I received from peers included focusing on the detail of the disco ball, playing with new fonts and font directions, and refining the color scheme. 

Following the feedback I received I got back to work. I scrapped my first disco ball and started from scratch trying out a new idea. Below you will see a bit of that process. 

In an effort to incorporate the feedback from my peers, I began trying out new colors, I made the disco ball much more detailed while making an effort to maintain simplicity and made my shapes symmetrical. 

By the end I had decided I didn't like either version of the small sparkles I had created. I also chose to change my fonts and the positioning of my fonts. I narrowed my color scheme down to the pink, orange, off-white and a few similar shades of blue. Below you will find my final product. 

I ended up really pleased with how it came out. I loved how fun it felt! All of the bright colors and fun shapes really catch your attention. The time, date and place stand out and are simple to read. The concept behind the revival of disco is also clearly demonstrated and displayed. This gig poster would be perfect for promoting an event!
