The International Grassland Congress brings together scientists, students, industry representatives, and primary producers from around the globe. Every 3-5 years, the congress convenes, bringing together all participants to discuss their research findings and personal experiences. The congress is essentially a convening of people who share a common interest in grasslands and the wildlife that depend on them. It began in 1927 with sixteen researchers from various European countries and has since grown to over a thousand delegates from over eighty countries.

Since its inception over a century ago, the congress has solely focused on grasslands' soil, plant, and animal aspects. Topics to be discussed include socioeconomic aspects of grassland use, livestock production, and ecosystem services.
