PAARY HOUSE extension & renovation

PAARY House - extention & renovation
Paary - Poland
With users looking for safe, socially distanced stays while also yearning for connection, across this small-scale hospitality project, we were rethinking its offering. A characteristic feature of the investment is its post-agriculture plan: the main building situated across the road, the central part of the plot is a pig farm - stables, hen houses and pigsties, with the barn with access to the farmland at backyard. The main goal of this project was to blend into the landscape, offering the space user the chance to enjoy beautiful and unspoiled natural environments.
ABOUT
Cocooning, self-contained cottages, venues that make the most of outside spaces, and not-expensive yet welcoming community-conscious areas are among the features that could characterize residential design in the COVID-19 era. Travel experiences are increasingly centering around protecting and preserving the natural surroundings.

PURE COUNTRYSIDE EXPERIENCE
CONCEPT
We took that sustainable responsibility to make the house disappear into the landscape. The main land consisted of an old house foundation and an old barn. We have put the focus on creating a regenerative recreation house. One of the first decisions was to keep the stable and re-invent it for the purpose of living in it.

MATERIAL FROM OLD BUILDING REUSED TO CONSTRUCT THE HOUSE EXTENTION
The second objective was to re-use all available materials that were scattered around the allotment. We focused on the history of agriculture development in this area - industrialization and degradation of classic farms forced people to migrate. As a result, we put on research the theme of individual elements’ disappearance and abandonment of plots.  That is why we decided to recycle the house’s foundation made of piles of limestone. The limestone was used on the elevation, and old barn’s wood as a main material for shutters, furnitures and flooring.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES
The architectural project focused on the transformation of a former stable building into a magnificent and functional house. The core of the new design centred around preserving the historic charm of the stable while introducing modern amenities. The project entailed extensive renovation work, beginning with insulating the foundations to ensure optimal energy efficiency. The structure and roof cladding were carefully replaced to guarantee the stability and longevity of the building. Inside, a comprehensive upgrade of systems and flooring was carried out to meet contemporary living standards. The completed project successfully transformed the former stable into a harmonious blend of old-world charm and modern living, showcasing the seamless integration of past and present.

REALIZATION
As the final outcome, we strive to re-birth the local materials’ landscape with its modern interpretation; mineral plaster, stone, wood will continue the rural narrative, but in contemporary adaptation.
INTERIORS
The minimalist approach to the interiors provided a canvas for the occupants to recollect the past while immersing themselves in the present. Uncluttered spaces, adorned with carefully chosen furnishings and decor, allowed the historical features of the former stable to shine while embracing contemporary living. Comfortable seating arrangements and cozy textiles further contributed to the enchantingly cozy and genuinely homely atmosphere. Additionally, biophilic design principles were employed, integrating indoor plants and nature-inspired artwork, fostering a sense of tranquillity and balance within the living spaces.
REALIZATION
Incorporating the principles of modern wellbeing, the house featured well-ventilated rooms, a harmonious colour palette, and spaces thoughtfully designed to promote relaxation and a stress-free lifestyle. Whether lounging in the living area, enjoying a meal in the dining room, or finding solace in a serene bedroom, every aspect of the interior design aimed to create an environment that nourished the body and soul.
