American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Training

American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Training
This project consisted of designing and developing training for the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training. The training that I designed and developed was targeted for adult learners in a corporate environment. Rather than creating training for someone to become certified, this training can be used by companies for continuing education for their employees. Employees completing this training will be able to recognize an emergency, follow the procedures to contact emergency management services, and assist in an emergency until emergency management services arrive.
Research

The first step in creating this training was to conduct research on a delivery method. First research was conducted on several Learning Management Systems. An LMS would be the ideal place to house the training for a companies employees.
I began by creating an annotated bibliography on common LMS terms. This allowed me to thoroughly understand the role that an LMS can play in presenting training content.
The annotated bibliography allowed me to research specific terms related to LMS's including Gamification, Learning Record Storage (LRS), Responsive Design, Data Encryption, and AICC.
Armed with thorough research on LMSs and their role in housing e-learning and training, I decided to use the Canvas LMS as my method of delivery for the American Red Cross training.

Several reasons factored into my decision. Canvas is responsive, has the ability for gamification, but most importantly is the LMS used by the target company.

My reasons are outline in the below video:
In the above video I discuss specific reasons and cite research as to why Canvas was the best LMS choice for delivering my training.
Planning
My next step in creating the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training was to plan out the content. I decided to deliver the content spaced over four different modules since I wanted the training to focus on four main areas:

Recognizing an Emergency
The Cardiac Chain of Survival
Administering First Aid Care for Sudden Illness, Breathing Emergencies or Stroke
Administering First Aid Care for Burns, External Bleeding, or Poisoning

In order to plan out the content, I first created a Hierarchical Task Analysis. This allowed me to identify specific objectives and tasks that I wanted the learners to complete.
The Hierarchical Task Analysis allowed me to easily map out the learning objectives and then pair them with specific modules.
Once the task analysis was complete, I needed to map out the content. To do so I created a content map to outline all of the tasks, assignments, and activities learners would need to complete throughout the training.
The Content Map outlines the specific tasks, instructional materials, research components, and assignments that are used throughout the training.
Development
Now that the LMS is chose, the learning objectives established, and the content planned out, the next step was developing the content to be used in the LMS. I was able to use some of the media assets directly from the American Red Cross training site and incorporate them into my training. I used Articulate Rise 360 to develop mobile ready content and house the content in the Canvas LMS through SCORM integration.

I created a video outlining the first module that can be seen below:
In the above video, I walkthrough the first module in the Canvas LMS. I discuss the reasons why I chose Canvas and give an overview of the training.
