Lab3: Photoshop and Reflection

LAB 3 : PHOTOSHOP REFLECTION
For this project, I decided to do a simple reflection of an object from an image. I have used pixabay in the past so that's where I went to look for a good image that I could use. I tried a few images and quickly realized that I have to find something where its shape is clearly defined, so it's easier to extract from an image. I tried cats and other animals but the fur of most is just to hard to separate from backgrounds.

I found a good image of a dove in the air, and so that's what I ended up using for my project.
I used the quick selection tool to select the dove apart from the rest. It worked well and it was quite accurate. I fixed minor details with "Refine Edge".
Once I got my dove I made a new layer with it and I hid the background.
First I thought about just using a background from Pixabay but that's too easy. I wanted to create my cool background but I don't really know how to use many of the tools. I searched youtube a bit and came a cross a video that shows how to create a "Low Poly" background. I followed along and created my own background.
For this I first filled the layer with a gradient color, and then I used the Polygonal Lasso Tool to make custom triangles next to each other. Then I went into Filter -> Blur -> Average.
And I applied the average filter to each triangle individually. Creating the background was by far the most tedious task to do in the project. It wasn't particularly hard, but I spend quite some time doing it and making each triangle look nice.
I Unhid the Layer with the dove and began working on the reflection. This was fairly simple. I duplicated the dove layer and I rotated the imaged vertically through Edit -> Transform. I moved the new layer below the original dove and reduced the"Fill" a bit.
I Created a new Mask Layer and I used the left Gradient Tool with a black-transparent Mode to make the reflection look more realistic.
This is my final result. I hope you like it!
