"An artist must not only train his eye, but his soul" - Wassily Kandinsky

"Torn" is a work that features the main emotion of a modern day artist amongst other people. Being an artist myself, I often feel torn from others because I can see the world differently (the green stripe across the face) or in more vibrant colors. This is not only a subject to do with how I see things, but how it impacts my life and relationships as well (the subject being in color compared to others in the background). The quote in the background from Wassily Kandinsky says "An artist must train not only his eye but also his soul". This quote in particular is included because artists tend to see the world differently, and because of this, they often have different souls or personalities. Artists can connect with this piece because they can relate to it so deeply.
