Randwick, Sydney Mural

Allan Wrath is a New Zealand artist who travelled to Australia to paint a mural in the suburb of Randwick, Sydney. The large-scale artwork was painted over 7 days, with up to a hundred people watching each day as he created the final product.

Allan's mural is a visual representation of Randwick City, which he intended to reflect the vibrant and diverse community. The brightly coloured palette and contemporary design style were inspired by street art and vernacular architecture. Wrath states that his work "aims to resonate with locals as they pass by on their morning commute".

The selected wall was on the corner of a busy intersection outside a café with outdoor seating, creating a strong link with the local community. The mural is 9 metres in length – fitting Wrath's "statement on monumental scale". Wrath says that he "likes to paint big", which is why his murals are typically this size. By painting such large pieces, Wrath aims to create public art that allows for deeper interaction and conversation.

The artwork was commissioned by Authority Creative for Newmarket property developers.
