LCC Timeline Project

LCC Timeline was the introduction project to my course (Graphics and media design), It was intended to get students to research the history of the college and important alumni that passed through their doors.

We were given a decade to research on and we were expected to create some form of timeline that communicates the information that we have found; My years were 1970-1979.

I started my project by visiting the Memory palace exhibition at the V&A. When I was there I saw these images printed on acrylic and backlit with a lightbox- I liked the concept of the shattered shapes so i decided to use it as a starting point.
Whilst playing around with different compositions- I tried different ways of presenting it with a traditional timeline look.
I decided that i was going to present my timeline as a book, the format sounded interesting and I had never made a book before so it was going to make a great learning experience.
I decided to use a colour scheme that I took from a LCP perspectus (1971)
Here Im testing the concept of cutting pieces of the page.

The idea behind this was that each year is different in their own right, and non of the pages have the same layout
Once I had all pages designed I imported them to InDesign to prepare them for print. With the help of the printing staff at my university I managed to piece it together with ease. After printing I took the pages upstairs to have them Saddle stiched together.
This is a photograph of my book before I cut out the white areas.
